In January of this year, The New York Times published an article regarding an upcoming Tulane Law Review article by Vernon Palmer and John Levendis purporting to report results of a study showing a correlation between campaign contributions to Louisiana’s elected Supreme Court justices and outcomes of Louisiana Supreme Court decisions, which caused a momentary stir in the news cycle.
That law review article is out now in Vol. 82, Issue 4 of the Tulane Law Review. The article is here. Meanwhile, Chief Justice Pascal Calogero, on June 12, 2008, released this statement reacting to the law review article, including links to rebuttals by E. Phelps Gay and Kevin Tully and by Robert Newman, Janet Speyrer, and Dek Terrell.
