Just a quick post to share this story about a Texas appellate court decision that has resulted in an order to return a Kenner, Louisiana family’s pet to Louisiana from a Texas family that had adopted it. The dog and its Louisiana family were separated during the Hurricane Katrina aftermath. Attempts to regain ownership of the dog led to litigation, with a Texas trial court finding that the dog should remain with the Texas family. On appeal, the Third District Texas Court of Appeals ruled that the trial court had erroneously disregarded DNA evidence showing that the adopted dog and the Louisiana dog were one and the same, and ordered the dog returned to its Louisiana family (represented on appeal by fellow blawger and Texas appellate attorney D. Todd Smith).
